Plasman is currently seeking a new member to join our Quality team as a(n):
Quality Manager with Engineering duties
The Quality Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the quality management system to ensure products, processes, and services meet customer and regulatory requirements. This role leads continuous improvement initiatives, drives adherence to ISO/IATF standards, and partners with cross-functional teams to sustain a culture of quality and operational excellence.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports directly to: Plant/Operations Leadership (e.g., Plant Manager or Director of Operations).
RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:
The responsibilities and authorities for this position include, but are certainly not limited to:
Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with relevant standards (ISO/IATF) and customer requirements.
Lead internal and external audits, prepare corrective and preventive action plans, and follow through to closure.
Manage the nonconformance and corrective action processes, including root cause analysis (8D, RCA) and verification of effectiveness.
Drive continuous improvement projects focused on defect reduction, process capability, and cost of quality using Lean, Six Sigma, or other methodologies.
Coordinate with Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, and Customer Service to resolve quality issues and implement robust controls.
Oversee product and process validation activities, first article inspections, and production part approval processes (PPAP) as required.
Establish and monitor quality metrics (e.g., PPM, scrap, rework, customer complaints) and report performance to leadership.
Develop and deliver quality training for associates and leaders to promote quality awareness and best practices.
Manage supplier quality performance, including supplier qualification, audits, and corrective actions.
Support new product introductions to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet quality targets.
Maintain accurate quality records and documentation in accordance with company policy and regulatory requirements.
Promote an atmosphere of teamwork and a safe work environment at all times.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Manage launch activities such as run at rate, process development and all preproduction.
Manage all customer and supplier changes throughout implementation and production
Manage all injection molding processes including the supervision of Process Technicians
Manage all Mass Transit and Roof Rail processes including the supervision of Manufacturing and Process Engineers
Manage the facility tooling program(s) activities including the supervision of the Tooling Technicians
Responsible for all product design activities for Mass Transit
Develop cell and plant layouts and implement (WP2, Tec)
Responsible for all packaging design and changes
Optimize manufacturing operations thru analytical studies of the current operating parameters, such as, production methods and processes on a continuous basis (WP2, Tec)
Analyze, thru CAD and other systems, utilization, layout, workflow and initiate appropriate activities to improve. I.E 5s etc. (WP2, Tec)
Participate in a cross-functional internal continuous improvement activities and document aspects of R&D for claiming purposes.
Commission, sign-off and implement equipment for secondary operations. (WP2, Tec)
Working in compliance with Quality Business Operating Systems and health and safety and environmental legislation.
Head up continuous improvement activities throughout the plant. (WP2)
Oversee the sales process and POC related to Mass Transit - cost estimating and quoting new production and service
. Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities – negotiating contracts and
Responsible for all preventative maintenance activities related to tooling & EOAT including procuring of spare parts and inventory
Responsible for all BOM implementation and updates
Responsible for creating and maintaining current capacity of plant operations
Assist other personnel where required.
Comply with established rules, procedures, and Health and Safety Mandates.
Ensure personal and associate awareness and understanding of ISO 14001 and ISO/TS 16949 (includes ISO 9001) Standards, and company policies and procedures.
During management system audit events provide evidence in support of conformance with applicable standards and procedures, and participate in corrective action activities as necessary.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Ensure adequate preventative maintenance is planned, carried out and documented for tooling, machinery and critical equipment. (WP1)
Maintain departmental spending per the annual fiscal budget.
HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:
4.1 The Quality Manager is responsible for complying with the Company Health & Safety Program including applicable occupational health legislation, regulations, standards and Company Health & Safety policies. Reference: JDA-003: Worker/Supplied Labor Health & Safety Responsibilities (Addendum to Worker Job Descriptions).
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR DESIGNATION REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the following minimum education qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
Professional certification (e.g., ASQ CQE, Six Sigma) considered an asset.
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the following minimum work experience qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years' experience in quality roles within a manufacturing environment, with 2+ years in a leadership role preferred.
Prior experience with ISO/IATF systems, customer audits, and supplier quality management.
MINIMUM TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the following minimum training:
ISO/IATF quality management system training.
Root cause analysis (8D, 5 Whys), APQP/PPAP, FMEA, and statistical process control (SPC) awareness.
Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety, and other relevant Company Policy awareness.
New Employee Orientation (when required).
QAD (ERP)
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to influence and collaborate across functions.
Proficient with quality tools and Microsoft Office; experience with MRP/ERP and quality management software a plus.
Able to meet the physical demands of the role and work hours as required, including shift support and occasional weekend coverage.
Self-motivated and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
